Vancouver Co-op Radio and the Community Radio Education Society (CRES) are experienced in community-based training and education. Each year, CRES trains hundreds of people from a range of marginalized communities and equips them with the skills needed to produce community radio. These include broadcast, technical and production skills. We have offered this training free or by donation since our inception in 1973. With our permanent home located in the heart of the Downtown Eastside, we are well respected for our work training, broadcasting and supporting marginalized communities. For example, we broadcast in 12 languages, have six programs that focus exclusively on sharing the voices of, and serving, Aboriginal communities, and all programs are produced by volunteers (400 total) who successfully received their radio training through our Community Radio Education and Training Program.
